BLAYNEY SHOW 2016

Wow what a start to our show season – Blayney Show was a fabulous show with the Cattle Team exhibiting a massive 23 head with 34 students attending.
After a long hot week and the students having to work extremely hard early each morning washing and clipping we were ready to go!!
We took 17 of our steers as a ‘practise’ show before Sydney Royal and then 3 of our Herefords and 3 of our Limousins.
We were lucky enough to be awarded the following in the steer classes:
In the lightweight class our Hereford steer bred by Waratah Poll Herefords and beautifully presented by our 3 Year 7 girls – Gracie, Felicity and Claire came 2nd.
In the Middleweight class (400-500kg) we took out:
1st with one of Austin Steers Limousins (S13) paraded and prepared by Steph Ferguson and Anna Wilde
2nd with a lovely Poll Hereford steer bred by Waratah Poll Herefords and paraded and prepared by Steph Arpazi and Max Semmens
3rd with another of Austin Steers Limousins (S11) paraded and prepared by Emma Martin and Maya Brooking
4th with yet another of Austin Steers Limousins (S12) paraded and prepared by Rosie Webb and Sophie Bingle
5th with a stunning black Limousin from Brayden Gilmore paraded and prepared by Tilly Ryan and Eliza Harley
We then went into the Heavyweight class and it was lovely to have one of our schools parents steers – an Angus bred by Dan Owens from Naneena Pastoral Company and paraded and prepared by Jesse Wells and Mia Wallace placing first!!
Finally we went out for Grand Champion with Steph Ferguson and Anna Wildes steer S13 taking out Champion and Jesse and Mia’s Angus steer taking out Reserve Champion.
Then we had our stud classes – we exhibited our home bred heifers and bulls with the following results:
Limousins:
TSS Kendall – Champion Limousin female  - paraded by Lizzie Woodhouse and Olivia Warry
TSS Kourtney- Reserve Champion female – paraded by Bailey Ryan and Brooke Webb
Oakvale Kylie – 3rd in her class – beautifully paraded by our youngest member Josh Kidd.

Herefords:
TSS Last Day 1406 Champion Hereford female – presented and paraded by Libby Coles and Phoebe Cutting
TSS Kobie taking out Reserve Champion female – presented and paraded by Gabbie Morrison and Paris Bennet
TSS 1406 – our young bull – took out Reserve Champion Bull – competently paraded by Tilly Ryan.
After a well deserved rest  we ventured into the Paraders classes. It was a proud moment to see all of our students parade so well – for many of them this was there first compettion which can be daunting but each and every one of them did extremely well. The results were as follows:
12 and Under
Ist Gracie Dawes
2nd Claire Ferguson
13 – 15 years
1st Steph Arpazi
2nd Mel Bateman
3rd Paris Bennett
And special mention to Max Semmens who had his debut parading competition and was truly amazing – well done Max!!
16-18 years
1st Steph Ferguson
3rd Jesse Wells
18 years and over
1st Emma Boland
Emma then went onto take out Grand Champion Parader!!
Some of our students then competed in the Farmers Challenge where they had to roll tyres, apple bob, chop wood, roll out swags etc etc and Emma Martin and Steph Ferguson won this with our younger team Felicity Webb taking out second!!
Special thanks must go to our amazing team – not only our fabulous students but also to Louise Warry, Brett Cranston, Joe  Gahan, Emma Boland who have helped the students every Monday and Wednesday morning, to Sue and Hugh Webb and Andrew Martin and Stuart Ferguson for driving our trucks and too all the support from the parents !! We must also thank our fabulous farm hand Peter Rebaux for all the behind the scenes work!!!

We are now all systems go towards Sydney Royal in 2 weeks!!!!!!!!!!! Can’t wait!!!!

The Team is our success at The Scots School

The Scots School, Bathurst had an outstanding year at The 2014 Sydney Royal Easter Show. The team  enjoyed outstanding success in the live judging receiving the Champion Heavy Weight Steer with a tremendous Charolais Steer bred by Violet Hills Charolais, as well as 1st place Middle Weight School Steer. In the carcase judging the team was awarded Champion School Carcase with a superb Limousin bred by the Nixon family from Avonwood Limousins. They were also awarded 1 gold medal, 3 silver medals and 5 bronze medals. This year Scots took an impressive team of 17 steers in both the Purebreed Steer and Carcase and the Trade Hoof and Carcase Competitions and the 30 strong students in the Cattle Team are grinning from ear to ear with their success and the excitement of the whole process.

The success of the team is due to the teamwork that starts long before the show circuit begins. The students are allocated one of the steers that Mrs Dawes has sourced from top stud breeders. An experienced student is selected on merit rather than age and a less experienced student is “buddied” with them to work on the same steer throughout the process of daily feeding, care, breaking in and coat preparation for the Show.

The team is well supported by the school, the parents and by the studs who donate the steers – Mrs Dawes states that we are very lucky to have the support of Terry Denniss from Jordensprings Limousns, The Nixon Family from Avonwood Limousins, The Jenkins Family of Violet Hills Charolais, Mr Austin Steer from Eltham Limousins, Tyla Comerford and The Clements Family from Diamond Cattle. Headmaster of The Scots School, Mr David Gates, said: “This is one of our most important educational and self-development programs at the School. Not only do the students learn a great deal about steers and preparing them for showing but they also learn to work together as a team, develop resilience as they face challenges,  take on responsibility, mentor younger students new to Cattle Team, develop patience and humility, have fun and a great deal more.”
