The Scots School, Bathurst welcomes overseas students and assures students that they will be well cared for when they enrol at the school. We understand that living away from home, particularly in another country, can be very difficult. The Scots School prepares students for their School Certificate and Higher School Certificate examinations and also welcomes students who wish to study for short periods of one year.

Student Visa

All overseas students must have a current Student Visa to study in Australia and to attend The Scots School. The school's overseas liaison officer will assist in providing the necessary information to obtain student visas and will, where necessary, assist with renewals of visas.

Accommodation Arrangements

All overseas students must enrol at The Scots School as boarding students. Home-stay students are not accepted.

English Language Classes

All overseas students are offered English Second Language (ESL) classes, at no extra fee, whilst they are enrolled at the Scots School. Students are expected to have some knowledge of English prior to enrolment. Assistance is also provided by the ESL teacher to students to assist them with their prep time during the evening. Students are also helped with learning and understanding cultural differences and how to attend to such things as banking, shopping, etc. and to get used to the way of life in a new country.

Guardian

It is preferred that all overseas students have a guardian nominated by their family. The school will act as guardian, in limited circumstances only.

School vacation times

During school vacation times it is preferred that all students go away from the boarding house. Students are encouraged to visit their guardian during this time, or, for the longer vacation times, to return to visit with their families. Homestay arrangements can be made in Bathurst only. Travel arrangements to and from the school will be arranged by the school. Tickets for overseas travel must be arranged by the student.

When travelling overseas students must make travel bookings in sufficient time to be in accordance with term dates and should not leave school early or return after the start of term. Over the last fifty years, The Scots School Bathurst has been both a school and a home to many students from very many countries.

We want to see that education is an enjoyable experience for all our students.
