From the Headmaster .......

Monday, May 14, 2018
Term 2 has begun very well with the start of the winter sports season last week and a myriad of other opportunities to engage the students. I look forward to observing sport in action during the season as I did with the senior netball last weekend. Sport is a very important part of what we do at The Scots School and I ask all parents to support our coaches in instilling sportsmanship and fair play as part of the way we play the game. Although we all enjoy winning, the real purpose of playing sport goes much deeper than this. It is also important to learn how to lose graciously, to accept the umpire and coaches call, to play fair, to acknowledge good play in others, to have fun and to develop skills and resilience.

There is much to be done in preparation for the full integration of Scots and All Saints’ College in 2019. I am very grateful for the support of so many parents through the P & F, the Working Integration Groups and attendance at various Parent Forums in support of the decision making process. I encourage all parents to stay positive about the greatly enhanced opportunities a combined school will provide for all students. I remind all parents about the Parent Forum tonight at 7pm in the Aikman Hall.

This Saturday night 20 Year 11 students will experience the enjoyment of the Highland Society Debutante Ball at Bathurst Panthers. They have been learning a wide range of traditional Scottish Ballroom dances over the last two months and have had a great deal of fun doing so. I am really looking forward to the ball and joining with their family and friends. There will be wonderful photos to enjoy in the next Highlander.

A real highlight of the school calendar each year is the Highland Jazz Night which is being held in Term 2 this year on the Parent Weekend 19/20 May. The Aikman Hall is usually full to capacity for this occasion so I encourage all parents to get your tickets soon. The Highland Jazz Night showcases our Pipes and Drums, Highland Dancers and senior music students who are studying HSC Music.
